christmas is just around the corner, come and be part of the journey

On Sunday 21st December at High Street Uniting Church we will begin the Christmas journey that will end on Christmas Eve.

From 7pm we will gather at the church, share some supper and then together follow the journey of Mary and Joseph as they head towards Bethlehem and the birth of the Christ child.

The young people of HSUC have written and created this service, so come along and share with them.

Then on Christmas Eve at 11.30pm we will continue the journey and arrive at our destination - the little town of Bethlehem. As we gather in the stable the scene will help us remember that Jesus was born into this world, with all its joys and tragedies, and not the scene that is painted on our Christmas cards. We will reflect, with Mary, on the events of that first Christmas and the relevance of Christ’s presence in the world today.

Then on Christmas morning with join with people all around the world in celebrating the birth of the Son of God. Our Christmas morning service is at 9am.

Come and share Christmas with us at HSUC and get involved in the journey and the reality of Christ’s birth.

As I was waiting for the kettle to boil in the staff room at Monash Uni this piece of paper caught my eye. I thought I would share it with you.

A strong woman or woman of strength

A strong woman works out everyday to keep her body in shape.

But a woman of strength sits in focus and in prayer to keep her soul in shape.

A strong woman isn’t afraid of anything.

But a woman of strength shows courage in the midst of her fear.

A strong woman won’t let anyone get the best of her,

but a woman of strength give the best of herself to everyone.

A strong woman makes mistakes and avoids the same in the future.

A woman of strength realises life’s mistakes can also be God’s blessings and capitalises on the experiences.

A strong woman walks sure footedly.

But a woman of strength knows that her God will catch her when she falls.

A strong woman wears the look of confidence on her face.

But a woman of strength wears grace.

A strong woman has faith that she is strong enough for the journey.

But a woman of strength has faith that it is in the journey that she will become strong…..

Pretty impressive eh?

A space to write a note to someone who has died

On Wednesday 3rd of September we set time aside to remember loved ones that we have lost. It was a time of special significance for those who attended. There was the opportunity to light a candle, write a note, sit and reflect - there were even some tissues if needed.

Next year in May we will have another Remembrance Day. The aim is to make space and time for this special remembering once in each semester.

This is the new logo for Revival

This is the new logo for Open

Well here are the two new logos for our evening worship at HSUC (High Street Uniting Church). There has also been some changes of time and format - and it is all really exciting!!!!

Revival is 1st and 3rd Sundays and is at 7pm at the Hight Street Uniting Church (16-18 High Street Frankston). Our 1st Sunday of the month will now be a bible study/reflection time with the 3rd Sunday of the month a time of praise and worship, guest speakers and other fun stuff.

Open is moving to 5pm to allow for those who would prefer to meet a little earlier and finish a little earlier. It is still at HSUC (details above) and will still be a time to question and explore, as the logo suggests, and open to all to come and share. We may even share a meal together. Come along and let’s find out!

Well, that is how people are describing NCYC09 Converge. NCYC (National Christian Youth Convention) is run by the Uniting Church in Australia and open to all young people aged 16 to 30. It is usually held every 2 years and the next one will be in 2009, 3rd to 9th January, and will be in Melbourne! Yeah!!!

NCYC09 will be the best 7 days out! There are main stage speakers such as Shane Claiborne from the USA, Robyn Whitaker currently in the USA but really from Australia and Amie Dural from the Philippines. There is great community time, bibles studies, electives, festival time, night life, worship and rallies - a great place to meet young Christians from around Australia and even the world!

On Saturday 23rd August 2008, at 7pm the members of the High Street Uniting Church are running a fundraising concert. Funds are being raised to help young people attend NCYC (National Christian Youth Convention) that is being held in Melbourne 3rd to 9th January 2009. For more information about NCYC please go to ncyc.org.au.

Tickets for the concert are $12 for adults, $10 for concession/students and $40 for a family ticket comprising of 2 adults and 2 children/concession. Children under 5 are free of charge. Included in the ticket price is a tea/coffee/cordial and a light supper.
